as you can possibly guess we are not the first people to make adaptations of Shakespeare’s works …. here are a few links to YouTube of other adaptations in trailer from …. this first one was made by the BBC and has a whole range….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYe0MrliPvc please be warned some images may be a little graphical…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S6IJWilpx4 this is one of Romeo and Juliet, un like the other adaptations the language remains the same as how Shakespeare wrote it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYNC-JiO_Uk this one is not quite like the others …. it is a sock puppet trailer …. but it is very similar to what we originally wanted to do…. Task 6

With my group we considered many different ways of re -producing Shakespeare’s Much ado about nothing. In the mind map above shows many of the paths that we looked at making. As you can see it is slightly unfinished. In the end my group decided to present a trailer advertising a new film on much ado about nothing. we were asked to create on one scene or parts of several scenes, our original thought process guided us to present Shakespeare in true style by having it actered out (having it performed.) there was however a slight draw back as some member of the group were ill and technology didn’t want to work the group decided on the form of a story board that included a few “directors notes”. As for the rest of the adaptations that we made, we all agreed that Shakespeare’s version was too difficult to understand and wanted to create something that was still enjoyable but connected to a range of audience. It was decided that our adaptation should stay as close as possible and realistic to Shakespeare original version. As for the final product, I do believe that it was successful however it could have been much better. Many obstacles did stand in our way and we did overcome many of them.

This term for English my class was learning about Shakespeare’s ‘Much ado about nothing’. as Shakespeare is written is very difficult language to read there have been many variations or adaptations. An example of an adaptation was shown to us in class. This adaptation was “Shakespeare retold much ado about nothing“. which was created by the BBC (British Board casting). Adapting is an interpretation of someone else’s work. works are most commonly changed to fit with the current society .When it comes to adapting things there are five main topics that normally changed. Plot, character, language theme and setting. The list below is one of some of the things that have been changed from Shakespeare’s original much ado about nothing. Plot : the basic plot line of the play was basically the same what did change however was how many of the characters interacted with each other. For example in the play script don Pedro’s and Claudio’s relationship with each other is one of friends. Don Pedro is willing to do anything even ask another women to marry Claudio. Where as in the movie Don Pedro barely talks to Claudio. One of the other things that was changed was the ‘back stories’ reasons why they were all there changed drastically. For example the reason Don John wants to destroy the wedding is that he is secretly in love with Hero. Language: the language has changed to modern English from old English which Shakespeare is well known for. Also with the character’s Dogberry and verges there is much less plays on words. In the original script Shakespeare made humour by making Dogberry and verges not all that clever with words, where as in the new script that is gone. Characters: all of the characters stayed the same but many of the roles were slightly modified. For example the names were modernised. Setting: many things were changed in order for the story line to work with the other adaptations. For example by having all these people work at the same place it did not mean that they all had to be related like they were in the script. Themes: the themes i find are often one of the things that makes the storyline. Many of the themes did stay the same keeping the basic storyline of Shakespeare’s ‘much ado about nothing. The BBC did successfully manage to create a adaptation of Much ado about nothing. In this respect they were successful. However I did not find their interpretation clear. One thing I did think was changed accurately was the reaction of the characters. When Shakespeare wrote his plays many made a comment of some kind. this Shakespeare retold has managed to change some of the reactions to the way people now days would react.
